Sargento Francisco Sánchez Matos

On 7 June 1938, sargento Francisco Sánchez Matos of the Escuela de Vuelo Nocturno at El Carmolí scrambled in Koolhoven FK.51 ‘EK-008’ at 00:30, but he was forced to crash-land when his engine seized due to oil starvation. The FK.51 turned over in front of the base hospital and Sánchez Matos was wounded and the aircraft destroyed.

In November, Sánchez Matos served in the 3a/26, which was equipped with Polikarpov I-15s.

On 1 November, the 3a/26 (I-15) claimed seven CR.32s. These were claimed by teniente José Falcó Sanmartín, Álvaro Muñoz López, Esteban Corbalán Marín, José Garre Solano, Sánchez Matos, José Santander Menéndez and J. Tremosa Arnavat.

Sánchez Matos ended the war with 1 biplane victory.
