Giovanni Scagliarini was born on 17 November 1913 and was from Finale Emilia (Modena).
He served as a volunteer during the Spanish Civil War.
On 4 April 1935, he was commissioned (in Servizio Permanente Effettivo).
He was promoted to Capitano on 24 July 1940.
In November 1942, Scagliarini belonged to the 233a Squadriglia, 59o Gruppo BT. This night-fighter unit was at this time equipped with Fiat CR.42CNs and based in Italy.
His Croce di guerra al valor militare was gazzetted on 9 November 1942.
On the night between 20 and 21 November 1942, he shot down Halifax Mk.II (DT571/MP-M) of 76 Squadron over Turin.
This was the last victory claimed by an Italian CR.42 night-fighter.
In 1943, he served in the 41o Stormo.
Scagliarini ended the war with 1 victory, this one claimed while flying Fiat CR.42s.
Scagliarini passed away on 17 January 1995.
