Starshiy Leitenant Aleksandr Markovich Bondarenko
1920 – 2 December 1943
Aleksandr Bondarenko was born in 1920.
He graduated from flight school in 1940.
When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, mladshiy leitenant Bondarenko served in 9 IAP-ChF of the Black Sea Fleet. This regiment was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.
On 8 August, mladshiy leitenant Bondarenko and mladshiy leitenant Mikhail Grib claimed a shared He 111 over Berezanskiy estuary together with a third pilot.
Mladshiy leitenant Bondarenko claimed an additional He 111 over Khadzhibeyevskiy estuary during the day.
On 3 November, Bondarenko and Mikhail Grib claimed a shared Ju 88 over Bakhchisaray.
Grib claimed an additional He 111 over Simferopol' during the day.
In December 1941, he was posted to 8 IAP-ChF. On 3 April 1942, 8 IAP-ChF became a guard’s unit and renamed to 6 GIAP-ChF.
On 22 April, Bondarenko and Mikhail Grib claimed a shared Bf 109 over Mamashay.
Starshiy leitenant Bondarenko was killed in air combat while flying a Yak-1 on 2 December 1943.
At the time of his death, Bondarenko was credited with 2 biplane victories and a total of 5.
These had been claimed during 340 combat missions (as of 13 May 1943).
During his career, he was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner (twice) and the
Order the Patriotic War 1st Class.
