Starshii Leitenant Ivan Dmitrievich Deikin

Ivan Deikin was born in 1914.
When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshii leitenant Deikin served in 9 IAP-ChF, flying Polikarpov I-153s with this unit.
9 IAP-ChF was part of the Black Sea Fleet and on 1 June 1941 they were based at Ochakov airfield and equipped with 40 I-16s, 16 I-153s and 17 I-15bis.
In the beginning of September, they were withdrawn from the front and started to receive Yak-1s.
In December 1941, he was posted from 9 IAP-ChF to 7 IAP-ChF. With this unit, he flew LaGG-3s.
He was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner on 13 May 1942.
On 1 July 1942, he didn’t return from a combat mission and was posted as missing.
At the time of his death, Deikin was credited with 2 biplane victories.
