Yefim Fomin was born in 1915.

Starshiy leitenant Fomin took part in the Soviet-Finnish Winter War of 1939-1940 flying Polikarpov I-15bis and I-153s in 5 ShAP and 147 IAP but without claiming anything.
He served in 5 ShAP from December 1939 until January 1940

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshiy leitenant Fomin still served in 147 IAP, flying Polikarpov I-153s.

After claiming five Ju 88s in August, he was wounded in air combat on 15 August and died of his wound on his way to hospital.

At the time of his death, Fomin was credited with 5 biplane victories.
These had been claimed during 49 combat missions.
