Petr Galkin was born in Korolovo on 22 October 1913.
He joined the Red Army in December 1933 and he studied at the Perm military school of aviation technicians until January 1934 before being sent to Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School from which he graduated in December 1935.
Starshiy leitenant Galkin took part in the Nomonhan Incident in Mongolia, flying I-15bis from 17 June until 5 May 1939.
From November 1940, kapitan Galkin served as deputy eskadrilya CO in 91 IAP.
When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, kapitan Galkin still served in 91 IAP, which was operating on the South-Western Front and equipped with I-153s.
In September 1941, he was posted to 171 IAP on the Bryansk Front, flying MiG-3s.
He was posted to 896 IAP in September 1942. With this unit he flew Yak-1s.
In October 1943 he was sent to 16 ODRAP (Separate Long-Range Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment), where he flew Yak-9s.
On 18 June 18, 1944, the eskadrilya CO kapitan Galkin died in a plane crash.
He is buried in Gomele, Belorussia.
At the time of his death, Galkin was credited with 1 biplane victory and a total of 10.
These had been claimed during around 300 combat missions.
