Gerasim Grishayev was born in Novosel'skoye on 28 March 1916.

He joined the Red Army in 1938.

Leitenant Grishayev was posted to 743 IAP. This regiment operated on the Crimean Front with Polikarpov I-153s.

743 IAP claimed a shared Bf 109 ”in group” north of Kury on 10 October 1942. Two of the involved pilots were Viktor Borodachev and starshiy leitenant Grishayev.

In December 1942, Grishayev was posted to 249 IAP as a zvena CO. With this regiment, he flew LaGG-3s.

On 24 March 1943, he was wounded in the left leg after air combat.

Starshiy leitenant Grishayev was killed when he landed after a night interception of enemy bombers on 23 January. At this time, he was an eskadrilya CO.

At the time of his death, Grishayev was credited with 1 biplane victory and a total of 10.
These had been claimed during 391 combat missions.
