Vasiliy Khitrin was born in 1912.
He graduated from Orenburg Flight School in 1937.
When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, leitenant Khitrin served in 29 IAP. This regiment was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.
It seems that leitenants Khitrin and Vasiliy Migunov claimed a shared He 111 on 29 July 1941.
On 2 October, 29 IAP claimed at least two Hs 126. It seems that leitenants Khitrin and Vasiliy Migunov claimed one shared together while the second was claimed ”in group”.
29 IAP claimed a FW 189 shot down ”in group” on 4 October. It seems that two of the pilots involved were leitenants Khitrin and Vasiliy Migunov.
Leitenant Khitrin was killed in a flight accident on 18 October 1941.
At the time of his death, Khitrin was credited with 1 biplane victory.
This had been claimed during 243 combat missions and 24 air combats.
Khitrin was posthumously decorated with the Gold Star of the Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin on 22 October 1941.
