Biplane fighter aces

Soviet Union

Starshiy Leytenant M. M. Kulakom

In November 1941, Starshiy Leytenant M. M. Kulakom served in the 120 IAP, which operated in the defence of Moscow. This unit was equipped with I-153s.

While pursuing a formation of Pe-2s at treetop height over the front lines on 13 November, III/JG 51’s 55-victory ace Oberfeldwebel Edmund Wagner was attacked by an I-153 piloted by Kulakom. The Soviet pilot fired his RS-82 rocket projectiles, which hit Wagner’s Bf 109, tearing it to pieces. The soldiers of a German anti-aircraft battery saw Wagner’s aircraft explode, leaving next to nothing but a black cloud of smoke.

Kulakom ended the war with 1 biplane victory.
