Fedor Lyapin was born in 1917.

He graduated from Kachinskaya flight school in 1938.

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, leitenant Lyapin served in 42 IAP on the North-Western Front. This unit was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.

On 30 June, his aircraft was damaged by AA fire and crashed while landing. Lyapin was seriously wounded and evacuated to hospital.

In January 1943, he was posted to 3./591 IAP.
This eskadrilya was incorporated in 827 IAP on 15 March and flew combat missions with this regiment.
827 IAP was disbanded on 15 May 1943, and 3rd eskadrilya returned to 591 IAP.
591 IAP operated La-5s as part of 101 IAD (Kursk) at this time.

Lyapin left 591 IAP in September 1944, when he was posted to 826 IAP where he remained until the end of the war.

Major Lyapin ended the war with 1 biplane victory and a total of 2.
