Starshina Aleksandr Ivanovich Trofimov

28 March 1922 - 25 February 1943

Trofimov was born in Tsaritsyne on 28 March 1922

In 1943 he served in the 611 IAP on the Transcaucasian Front. This unit was still equipped with the Polikarpov I-153.

On 18 January he flew a combat mission together with four other I-153s. When they returned to their base Trofimov spotted a Focke-Wulf FW 189 and attacked it. He succeeded in damaging the enemy aircraft but then suffered a gun-stoppage. He overtook the fleeing German observation aircraft and hit the right rudder and elevator with his propeller. The FW 189 crashed while Trofimov managed to return to base and land with his damaged fighter.

Trofimov was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner for this combat.

He did not return from a combat mission on 25 February 1943.

At the time of his death Trofimov was credited with 1 biplane victory.
