Nikolay Vasil’yev was born in 1918.
From July 1942, leitenant Vasil’yev served in 483 IAP. This regiment became operational on 15 July 1942 on the North Caucasian Front and was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.
On 3 August, Vasil’yev was seriously wounded in air combat.
He was hospitalized and after recovery, he was posted away.
In July 1943, he was posted to 484 IAP.
This regiment went back to combat operations on the Western Front on 8 July 1943 and was at the time equipped with Yak-1s.
On 19 August 1943, he claimed a FW 190 over the Yel’nya area by a ”taran” ramming attack.. A second FW 190 was claimed in the same area by Georgiy Ustinov.
Kapitan Vasil’yev ended the war with 2 biplane victories and a total of 4.
These had been claimed during 283 combat missions and 17 air combats.
