Dmitriy Vichugin was born in 1918.
When Germany attacked the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, mladshiy leitenant Vichugin served in 38 IAP. This regiment was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s and I-16s and operated on the North-Western Front.
On 22 June, the regiment had 63 I-153s and I-16s (of which 16 were non-operational).
On 21 July, kapitan Nikolay Sobolev claimed a shared ”PZL” together with another pilot south-east of Dno.
It’s possible that this was claimed together with mladshiy leitenant Vichugin since it’s known that he claimed a shared ”PZL” together with another pilot during the day.
Vichugin didn’t return from a combat mission on 26 July 1941.
At the time of his death, Vichugin was credited with 1 biplane victory.
