On 6 November 1941, he was decorated with the Order of the Red Star.

In March 1942, 6 IAP re-equipped with Yak-1s and was back on operations from 31 March on the South-Western Front

On 28 May a group of pilots (including Zheltov) and aircraft from 6 IAP was transferred to 273 IAP.

He was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner on 17 June 1942.
