Mikhail Gurbanov was born in 1916.
He graduated from Serpukhovskaya flight school in 1941.
Leitenant Gurbanov was posted to 591 IAP in December 1941. At this time this regiment was flying Polikarpov I-153s.
On 31 October 1941, leitenant Gurbanov was leading a flight of I-153s, which included mladshiy leitenant Ivan Vorob’yev when they claimed a shared Bf 109 shot down in the Yefremovo area.
This was the first victory of 591 IAP.
In March 1945, he left 591 IAP and was later posted to 862 IAP where he remained to the end of the war.
Kapitan Gurbanov ended the war with 1 shared biplane victory and a total of 1.
These had been claimed during 197 combat missions and 19 air combats (as of 5 November 1944).
