Ivan Vorob’yev was born in 1919.

He graduated from Ul'yanovsk flight school in 1941.

From October 1941, mladshiy leitenant Vorob’yev served in 591 IAP. Initially, this unit was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.

On 31 October 1941, leitenant Mikhail Gurbanov was leading a flight of I-153s, which included mladshiy leitenant Vorob’yev when they claimed a shared Bf 109 shot down in the Yefremovo area.
This was the first victory of 591 IAP.

Vorob’yev was to serve in 591 IAP until the end of the war. With this regiment, he also flew Yak-1s, Yak-7Bs and La-5s.

Starshiy leitenant Vorob’yev ended the war with 1 shared biplane victory and a total of 2.
These had been claimed during around 150 combat missions.
