Starshiy Leytenant Vasiliy Ivanovich Babushkin

Vasiliy Babushkin was born in 1918.

He graduated from flight school in 1940.

When Germany attacked the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshiy leytenant Babushkin served in 72 SmAP-SF, flying Polikarpov I-153s. This unit was part of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet.

On 9 August, 72 SmAP-SF intercepted Ju 88s over Murmansk and claimed to have shot down five of the bombers as shared among eight pilots including starshiy leytenant Babushkin, starshiy leytenant Vasiliy Volovikov and starshiy leytenant Viktor Alagurov.
Starshiy leytenant Babushkin was however shot down and killed in this combat.

At the time of his death, Babushkin was credited with 2 biplane victories.
