Kapitan Viktor Nikiforovich Alagurov

1916 – 11 July 1944

Viktor Alagurov was born in 1916.

He graduated from flight school in 1936.

Leytenant Alagurov took part in the Finnish-Soviet Winter War of 1939-1940, flying Polikarpov I-15bis and I-153s.

On 7 May 1940, Alagurov was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner.

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshiy leytenant Alagurov served in 72 SmAP-SF, which was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s. This unit was part of the Air Force of the Northern Fleet in the Murmansk area.

On 29 June, Ju 88s attacked Vayenga airfield. The I-153s from 72 SmAP-SF intercepted these and Vasiliy Adonkin claimed a Ju 88 and three more shared as did leitenant Fedor Plotko. The three shared Ju 88s were shared among five pilots including Adonkin, leitenant Plotko and starshiy leitenant Alagurov. A sixth Ju 88 was claimed by Ivan Tumanov.

On 9 August, 72 SmAP-SF intercepted Ju 88s over Murmansk and claimed to have shot down five of the bombers as shared among eight pilots including starshiy leytenant Vasiliy Babushkin, starshiy leytenant Vasiliy Volovikov and starshiy leytenant Alagurov.
Starshiy leytenant Babushkin was however shot down and killed in this combat.

On 13 August 1941, Alagurov was decorated with a second Order of the Red Banner.

In October 1941, he was transferred to 78 IAP-SF.

He left 78 IAP-SF in March 1942, when he was transferred to 2 GSmAP-SF.

On 14 October 1942, 2 GSmAP-SF became 2 GIAP-SF, when the unit became an all-fighter unit.

Alagurov was decorated with the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class on 6 April 1943.

In August 1943, he was posted away from 2 GIAP-SF

In the second half of 1943, he was part of the 46 ShAP-SF for some time and he was enlisted in the regiment as an eskadrilya CO on 8 October 1943. However, it seems that he didn’t flew any combat missions with this unit.

In April 1944, he was posted to 53 ShAP-SF.

Kapitan Alagurov died of methanol poisoning on 11 July 1944.

At the time of his death, Alagurov was credited with 8 shared biplane victories and a total of 3.
These had been claimed during 450 combat missions (as of 18 February 1943).
