Leytenant Vasiliy Andreyevich Belous

1918 – 17 August 1941

Vasiliy Belous was born in 1918.

Mladshiy leytenant Belous took part in the Soviet-Finnish Winter War as a pilot in 38 IAP between December 1939 and March 1940, flying Polikarpov I-153s.

On 22 February 1941, Belous was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner.

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, leytenant Belous still served in 38 IAP, flying I-153.
The regiment was operating on the North-Western Front.

38 IAP claimed two Bf 109s on 11 July; one by mladshiy leytenant Belous and one by mladshiy leytenant Nikolay Gorbunov.

On 17 July, 38 IAP claimed four Bf 110s. One was claimed by kapitan Vasiliy Kashtanov (I-153 or I-16) over Staraya Russa airfield. The other three were individual claims by three I-153s pilots; leytenant Konstantin Gorin, mladshiy leytenant Belous and mladshiy leytenant Nikolay Gorbunov. It’s possible that these claims also were made over Staraya Russa airfield.
Leytenant Gorin was killed during the day and it’s also possible that this was during this combat.

On 25 July, Belous was decorated with a second Order of the Red Banner.

Belous didn’t return from a combat mission on 17 August 1941.

At the time of his death, Belous was credited with 3 biplane victories.
