Major Boris Egorovich Grebenkov

1910 –

Boris Grebenkov was born in 1910.

When Germany attacked the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshiy leitenant Grebenkov served in 253 IAP on the South-Western Front, flying Polikarpov I-153s.

On 4 July, the I-153s from 253 IAP intercepted many German aircraft in the Kiev region and during the day, they made claims for three shared He 111s and three shared Bf 109s destroyed. These claims were shared among nine pilots including kapitan Vasiliy Mal’tsev, starshiy leitenant Grebenkov, starshiy leitenant Semen Makeyev, leitenant Nikolay Abramchuk, leitenant Aleksandr Surkov and serzhant Ivan Kashirkin.

On 28 July, he was seriously wounded by ground-fire and hospitalized.

Upon recovery, he was sent to 688 ShAP in August 1942. This was a ground-attacking unit flying Ilyushin Il-2s.

On 8 February 1943, the 688 ShAP became a guards-unit when they became 59 GShAP.

Grebeno ended the war with 1 biplane victory and a total of 2.
During his career he was decorated with the Order of the Red Banner (28 January 1943, 12 July 1943 and 18 September 1944), the Order of Aleksandr Nevski (26 May 1943) and the Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class (4 July 1944 and 11 March 1985).
