Semen Makeyev was born in 1910.

When Germany invaded the Soviet Union on 22 June 1941, starshiy leitenant Makeyev served in 253 IAP. This regiment was equipped with Polikarpov I-153s.

On 4 July, the I-153s from 253 IAP intercepted many German aircraft in the Kiev region and during the day, they made claims for three shared He 111s and three shared Bf 109s destroyed. These claims were shared among nine pilots including kapitan Vasiliy Mal’tsev, starshiy leitenant Boris Grebenkov, starshiy leitenant Makeyev, leitenant Nikolay Abramchuk, leitenant Aleksandr Surkov and serzhant Ivan Kashirkin.

Makeyev left 253 IAP in September 1941.

In October 1942, he was posted to 181 IAP.

On 19 August 1944, 181 IAP became a guard’s unit and was renamed to 180 GIAP.

Makeyev ended the war with 6 shared biplane victories and a total of 1.
This had been claimed during 207 combat missions and 30 air combats.
